 Obesity is classified as having a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or greater.  BMI is calculated by dividing a person’s weight (kilograms) by his or her height (meters squared).

Risks Associated with Obesity

More than 40 medical conditions are associated with obesity.  The most common obesity-related diseases include:

  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease
  • Stroke
  • Gallbladder disease
  • Fatty Liver
  • Sleep apnea and respiratory problems
  • Some cancers (endometrial, breast, and colon)
